About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Float Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Nursing license required; pending license accepted (must obtain prior to starting) Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Will float to other medical surgical units as needed - Weekend shifts required every other week - First-time travelers accepted Description: Position: Medical Surgical RN on 6 South Ratios: Patient to nurse ratio is 1:6 Patient Age Groups: Adults and geriatrics Daily Census: Approximately 22 patients Patient Diagnoses: Medical-surgical patients Skills Required: Accessing and managing ports Blood product administration Central line blood draw Chest tube management Colostomy and ileostomy care Heparin administration Isolation precautions and PPE Medical-surgical care Nasal cannula and oxygen administration Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) management Peripheral line care and management Phlebotomy PICC line management Pre and post-thoracic surgery care Renal failure management Starting and maintaining IVs Surgical drain care Telemetry monitoring Tracheostomy care and management Wound care and vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) management Interdisciplinary Support: Includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit clerical support. Special Equipment: Various equipment used for patient care and support. Staffing & Scheduling: Staffing type: Resource pool for medical surgical and telemetry units Call requirements and weekend coverage: Required Floating Requirements: Staff will float to five medical surgical units and four telemetry units as needed. Candidates must submit all requested time off with their applications. Modules for additional training are to be completed prior to the start date. All applicants should have relevant documentation for verification.
