Palliative Care Physician

Vacchcs Medicine Service / UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine Physician - Section Chief – Palliative Care Job Summary This full-time board certified or board eligible Internal Medicine physician with palliative care training is being recruited. Applicants must have completed an internal medicine residency, hold a medical degree (MD, DO or equivalent), be eligible to obtain a U.S. medical license, and be eligible for appointment at the VA. VACCHCS’s basic qualification standards require these credentials and additional qualifications as needed. The position primarily ensures high quality practices in the treatment of patients at the end of life through coordination and integration of patient care with nursing, medical, and complementary interventions. It also serves as an important member of the UCSF Fresno residency and fellowship programs in a supportive learning environment. Responsibilities Coordinate and integrate patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and care‑centered locations, and lead the Palliative Care Consult Team. Provide administrative oversight and promote clinical and research growth of the Palliative Medicine section. Coordinate multidisciplinary efforts for end‑of‑life care across the continuum of care. Serve as a consultant and resource person for the development and implementation of educational programs. Design and implement measures to monitor program effectiveness. Assist patients and their families in active participation in care management and necessary lifestyle adjustments. Represent the section in collaborations with UCSF Fresno residency and fellowship programs. Qualifications Board certified or board eligible Internal Medicine physician with palliative care training. Completion of an internal medicine residency program. Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent). Eligibility to obtain a U.S. medical license. Eligibility for appointment at the VA. Demonstrated experience in coordinating multidisciplinary end‑of‑life care programs. Strong research or academic engagement is desirable. Benefits and Compensation Salary range: $250,000 - $335,000.
