PRN Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room / Pre-Op / PACUOrtho Sport & Spine Physicians is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team. This role is responsible for providing exceptional patient care throughout all phases of the surgical experience, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-anesthesia recovery care.The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment, maintains the highest standards of patient safety and sterile technique, and demonstrates excellent teamwork and communication skills. This individual will work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and clinical staff to ensure outstanding patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.Pre-Operative ResponsibilitiesAdmit and prepare patients for surgical proceduresPerform comprehensive admission assessments and collect patient medical historyVerify patient readiness for surgery, including NPO status and required documentationStart intravenous lines and administer pre-operative medications as orderedProvide patient education and address questions or concerns prior to surgeryAssist in safely transferring patients to the operating roomIntra-Operative ResponsibilitiesMaintain a sterile and safe operating room environmentAssist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures as the circulating nurseMonitor patients throughout surgical procedures and communicate changes in conditionEnsure all surgical equipment and instruments are functioning properly and readily availableAdhere to all infection prevention, aseptic, and safety protocolsAccurately document all intra-operative patient care and surgical activitiesSupervise and support surgical technologists and medical assistants during proceduresPost-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) ResponsibilitiesMonitor patients during post-operative recovery for pain control, airway stability, bleeding, and anesthesia-related complicationsAssess and document patient responses to treatment and recovery progressComplete discharge instructions and provide post-operative patient educationSafely escort patients upon dischargeAdditional ResponsibilitiesAssist with room turnover and terminal cleaning proceduresPrepare operating rooms for upcoming proceduresMaintain inventory and stock surgical supplies as neededAssist with chart audits and quality assurance initiativesSupport compliance with QUAD A accreditation standardsParticipate in maintaining a positive, collaborative team environmentPerform additional duties as assignedQualificationsEducation & ExperienceGraduate of an accredited nursing program requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferredPrevious Operating Room and/or PACU experience preferredExperience as a circulating nurse strongly preferredLicensure & CertificationsCurrent and active Georgia RN License or Compact State LicenseCurrent American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CertificationCurrent American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS CertificationCNOR Certification preferred but not requiredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skillsExcellent understanding of sterile technique and surgical safety standardsAbility to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situationsStrong organizational and multitasking abilitiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative teamProficient with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systemsSupervisory ResponsibilitiesAssist with coordinating daily patient care assignmentsDelegate responsibilities appropriately to support staff based on skill level and patient needsSupport team collaboration and efficient workflow within the surgical departmentPhysical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis position requires prolonged standing, walking, lifting, bending, and assisting with patient transfers throughout the workday.
