Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities within a home and group home environment. The RN works closely with the clinical leadership team to ensure residents receive safe, effective, and individualized care aligned with physician orders and care plans.
This position requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, compassion, and the ability to respond confidently to changing resident needs while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards.
Reports to: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessments & Resident Care
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments at the beginning of shifts and as needed
- Monitor and evaluate residents’ physical, emotional, and psychological health status
- Identify changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalate concerns promptly
- Monitor chronic conditions and ensure interventions support optimal resident outcomes
- Accurately collect, interpret, and document vital signs and clinical observations
Care Planning & Coordination
- Implement and monitor individualized care plans in accordance with physician orders and organizational standards
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, support coordinators, and nursing staff
- Participate in care coordination meetings and contribute to care plan updates and recommendations
- Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and adjust care approaches as appropriate
Medication Administration
- Administer medications safely and accurately following the seven rights of medication administration
- Monitor for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions
- Maintain accurate and timely Medication Administration Records (MARs)
- Educate residents and caregivers on medications, treatments, and care recommendations
Resident Advocacy & Support
- Advocate for resident dignity, rights, safety, and quality of life
- Provide emotional support and guidance to residents and families
- Encourage independence and participation in daily living activities whenever appropriate
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all nursing documentation thoroughly, accurately, and timely
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, nursing standards, and organizational policies
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
- Assist in maintaining survey readiness and regulatory compliance standards
Emergency Response & Safety
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and changes in resident condition
- Ensure emergency equipment and medical supplies are properly maintained and available
- Promote a safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff
- Educate residents and caregivers on health, safety, and emergency preparedness practices
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher required
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience preferred, ideally in home health, long-term care, or developmental disability services
- Experience working with medically complex residents preferred
- Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and nursing regulations related to home and community-based care
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Flexibility to work holidays, weekends, inclement weather, and travel between assigned locations as needed
