Actuarial Intern

The Actuarial Interns will work alongside experienced actuarial professionals to support key business initiatives through data analysis, modeling, research, and problem-solving. Interns will gain exposure to the daily work of an actuary.

These roles provide an opportunity to apply actuarial and analytical knowledge to real business challenges while developing technical, professional, and communication skills in a collaborative reinsurance environment. Depending on business needs, interns may support teams focused on analyzing insurance experience, evaluating portfolio performance, enhancing actuarial models, supporting financial reporting, or developing innovative analytical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance-related data to identify trends, insights, and business impacts.
• Support the development, testing, validation, and maintenance of actuarial models, assumptions, and analytical tools.
• Assist with experience studies, portfolio analyses, valuation activities, and business performance assessments.
• Conduct quantitative research and evaluate findings to support actuarial recommendations and business decisions.
• Develop reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate analyses and project outcomes to stakeholders.
• Support process improvement, automation, and data management initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, and intern development activities.
• Contribute to ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives aligned with departmental and organizational priorities.

Qualifications

• Progress toward actuarial credentialing, including the completion of at least one actuarial exam preferred. Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and statistical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into meaningful business insights.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Preferred experience with programming or analytical tools such as Python, R, VBA, SQL, Tableau, or similar technologies.

Pay Range for roles performed in Charlotte: $26-$27 hourly rate. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long term incentives.
