L&D Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary skills and certifications to provide high-quality care to patients during labor and delivery.

Position Details

Unit Type: Labor and Delivery (L&D)
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours per week
Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years in L&D

Required Certifications

BLS Certification
ACLS Certification
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Prefer EFM through NCC or Advanced Fetal Monitoring

Unit Information

Patient Capacity:
- 7 labor beds
- 2 OR suites for C-sections
- 4 triage beds
- 4 postpartum recovery room beds
Average Births: Approximately 118 births per month, totaling 1,417 deliveries in 2023.
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Antepartum: 1:1-3
- Intrapartum: 1:1
- Postpartum: 1:1-4
Common Diagnoses Treated:
- Pre-eclampsia
- Diabetes requiring insulin drip
- Magnesium Sulfate for pre-term labor and pre-eclampsia

Responsibilities

Maintain oversight and care for patients throughout labor and delivery.
Circulate during C-sections and manage required drips including Oxytocin, Magnesium, and Insulin.
Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, and midwives to ensure comprehensive care.
Perform assessments and manage intrapartum and postpartum care.
Participate in unit self-scheduling while supporting optimal staffing needs.

Additional Information

Surgical Assistance: Surgical techs are available on each shift; there are no nurse aides on the unit.
Anesthesia and Neonatology: Anesthesia and OB are available in-house 24/7; pediatricians are on call at night.
Orientation: New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program, including three days with a preceptor and additional time in maternal-baby/postpartum and triage.
Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Must be available to work on weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Floating: Ability to float to maternal-baby/postpartum units may be required.
Scrub Color: Royal Blue
