Part-Time Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist – Adult Mental Health Department (Classification 776). Non-Union Part‑Time (30 hours/week) position. This position is open until filled. First review of applications will be on April 20, 2026. Any applications received after April 20 will be reviewed and considered as needed, and this posting may close at any time after that date. Linn County requires on‑site work. Remote work is not available. This part‑time position performs outpatient psychiatric services for adults with developmental, behavioral, addiction, and mental health issues. Provide psychiatric assessments with differential diagnoses, prescribe and supervise medication management, and collaborate with the treatment team for interventions. Provide psychiatric consultation to local physicians and develop relationships to transition clients back to primary care. Review and approve client treatment plans. Provide formal clinical supervision to residents as assigned by the Program Manager. Supervise psychiatric nurses and nurse practitioners through standing orders. Assign responsibilities, provide direction, advise and consult on problems and interpretations of laws and regulations; participate in personnel selection and training. Essential Functions Perform psychiatric evaluations including a differential diagnosis. Collaborate in the development of individual habilitation and/or treatment plans as a full team member. Perform physician sign‑off on individual habilitation and/or treatment plans when adequately addressing client needs. Prescribe psychiatric medications and collaborate with case management and nursing staff to facilitate appropriate medication monitoring. Provide psychiatric consultation and medical supervision. Provide psychiatric consultation to allied community agencies with an emphasis on the primary care physician. Perform court‑appointed examinations for civil commitments hearings. Knowledge, Skill and Ability Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of community and hospital psychiatry. Considerable knowledge of community mental health principles and practices, including a wide range of treatment modalities and assessment techniques. Reasonable knowledge of psychological and personality testing and their application to the diagnosis and treatment of mentally ill persons. Advanced professional level skills in psychotherapy, medication management and differential diagnosis. Advanced ability to deal therapeutically with persons with mental or emotional disturbances, developmental disabilities, and/or alcohol and drug abuse problems. Ability to quickly develop therapeutic relationships even with resistant clients and families. Capability to conduct thorough, in‑depth interviews, assessments, evaluations and effectively interpret information for diagnosis and treatment planning. Considerable ability to provide leadership in fostering coordination among medical, psychological and psychosocial approaches to client care. Experience, Education and Training Medical degree plus successful completion of a residency program in psychiatry. Board certification in psychiatry is desirable although not required. Professional experience with diverse clinical populations is preferred. Must be able to pass a criminal history check and possess or obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that meets the County’s requirements.
