Safety Manager

Responsibilities Ensure contract performance conforms to established standards and governmental agency guidelines, guaranteeing customer satisfaction. Manage, implement, and maintain required environmental operation procedures to ensure company and employee awareness, comprehension, and adherence. Conduct quality and safety inspections/audits of contract operations and subcontractors. Prepare hazard and environmental waste programs, manuals, and revisions. Coordinate and perform audits on health/safety/environmental and maintenance programs. Provide responses to customer concerns and findings. Track corrective actions taken in response to internal and customer audit findings. Provide guidance and direction to achieve compliance with all applicable safety and quality standards. Act as a direct representative of the company to the customer. Establish and communicate program metrics as needed. Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and disseminate safety bulletins, technical changes, and literature to work site personnel. Investigate mishaps and injuries. Maintain a technical library. Ensure injury, incident, HAZMAT, and adverse trend reporting. Monitor quality deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions. Provide leadership and knowledge to staff members and teams as necessary. Perform other qualified duties as assigned. Qualifications Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in combination of program management, plant & operations management, or safety & environmental compliance. Two (2) years of management experience preferred. Advanced knowledge of EHS policies and processes. Working knowledge of compliance with Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Project planning and management skills. Ability to get results through influence, negotiation and teamwork. Proven leadership ability. Working knowledge of quality management, its concepts, techniques, tools and procedures. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location. Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental, health and safety management, or related discipline. Two (2) years of experience in a related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college. Working and Living Conditions This position may be located in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this environment. Physical activities may include heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. Employees must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods and be capable of running and duck & cover during emergencies without putting themselves or others at risk.
