Fulfillment & Shipping Manager

Summary

The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills is seeking an experienced Fulfillment & Shipping Manager to take ownership of our shipping operation for artisan cheeses and specialty foods.

This is not an entry-level fulfillment position. We're looking for someone who is already an expert in shipping perishable and fragile products—someone who understands the process behind packaging and knows how to ensure products arrive in perfect condition regardless of destination, weather, or transit time. This role requires precision, speed, and a genuine respect for the products you're handling.

Responsibilities

• Expertly pack and process daily outbound shipments of artisan cheeses, charcuterie, gourmet foods, gift boxes, and other fragile specialty products.
• Independently determine the appropriate box size, insulated packaging, gel packs, ice, liners, void fill, and protective materials based on product type, destination, weather conditions, and transit time.
• Evaluate each shipment and make informed packaging decisions to ensure products arrive safely while minimizing shipping costs.
• Prepare FedEx shipments, including label creation, shipment processing, pickup coordination, tracking, and troubleshooting.
• Monitor carrier cutoff times and prioritize daily workflow to ensure all shipments leave on time.
• Inspect every shipment for accuracy, quality, presentation, labeling, and secure packaging before dispatch.
• Anticipate shipping challenges caused by weather, transit delays, or product sensitivity and adjust packaging methods accordingly.
• Receive inbound deliveries and assist with inventory organization and stock replenishment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, food-safe, and efficient fulfillment workspace.
• Communicate shipping issues, damaged products, inventory shortages, or carrier concerns promptly.
• Recommend improvements to packaging materials, shipping methods, workstation organization, and fulfillment processes to reduce damage and improve efficiency.
• Assist in developing and maintaining shipping standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with the team on ad hoc items as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

• 2+ years of experience shipping perishable, fragile, or temperature-sensitive products.
• Hands-on experience using FedEx and/or UPS shipping systems, including label creation, shipment processing, tracking, and coordinating pickups.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality during high-volume shipping periods.
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Preferred:

• Experience at a specialty food store, grocery, or gourmet food company
• Familiarity with temperature-sensitive shipping requirements and transit time considerations
• Experience with shipping software or order management systems
• A passion for or curiosity about artisan cheese and specialty foods
• Experience with packaging shipments and ability to make suggestions on best practices for shipping and packaging

Schedule

Availability on weekdays required; weekend availability is a plus. Schedule may vary based on order volume and seasonal demand (holidays are our busiest time).

Compensation & Benefits

• $24-25/hour
