We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Specialist I to join our Residential Lending team. This role is responsible for originating and processing mortgage loans, performing upfront underwriting assessments, and ensuring an exceptional experience for our members. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical proficiency in Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and Microsoft Office Suite, along with foundational experience in residential real estate lending.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Originating Loans:
- Proactively engage with prospective borrowers to assess their financial needs.
- Evaluate eligibility and recommend mortgage products that align with member goals.
- Guide members through the loan application process, ensuring regulatory and policy compliance.
- Clearly explain complex mortgage terms and rate structures in a member-friendly manner.
Processing Loans:
- Collect and verify the required documentation to complete loan files.
- Work with members to gather financial information, credit data, and paperwork.
- Submit accurate, complete loan packages for underwriting.
- Provide timely updates to members and address inquiries regarding their loan status.
Upfront Underwriting Preparation:
- Conduct preliminary underwriting assessments to identify potential issues and ensure loan applications meet underwriting guidelines.
- Collaborate with underwriters to resolve discrepancies and improve the efficiency of the underwriting process.
Technical Abilities:
- Operate LOS platforms effectively to streamline loan origination and processing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation and communication tasks.
Member Experience:
- Maintain professionalism, empathy, and responsiveness throughout the mortgage process.
- Address member questions and concerns promptly and effectively.
Residential Real Estate Experience:
- Apply a foundational understanding of the residential real estate market, including property values, market trends, and relevant regulations (e.g., Reg B and Reg Z).
- Use industry knowledge to recommend customized mortgage solutions.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma (or equivalent). Equivalent education/experience may be considered
- Associate degree in finance, business, or related field (preferred).
Experience:
- One year or less Residential Real Estate Experience.
- Minimal experience in originating and processing mortgage loans.
- Technical proficiency in LOS and Microsoft Suite.
Certifications:
- NMLS ID/ license or the ability to obtain one.
Additional Requirements
- General understanding of credit union operations, including workflow, legal requirements, and work prioritization.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and tact.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and deal with routine standardized problems.
- Proficient in using modern word-processing software.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
