Electrical Inspector

JOB SUMMARY

Performs skilled inspection work securing compliance with ordinances and laws governing the installation and operation of electrical systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs inspections of new and existing wiring and electrical installations for light, heat, and power in residences, businesses, public, and other buildings to determine conformance with safety standards, laws, and ordinances.
• Checks plans and performs calculations for compliance with established standards and recommends methods of compliance.
• Issues permits and certificates for electrical installations and alterations.
• Investigates complaints of dangerous wiring and electrical installations for possible electrical causes of fire.
• Contacts power company, engineers, contractors, and electricians with respect to installation and major repair work.
• Maintains records, conducts correspondence, and prepares reports.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical systems in municipal buildings and areas.
• Reviews electrical prints for conformity of safety, law, ordinances.
• Answers questions concerning compliance of construction from contractors.
• Assists contractors troubleshoot installations to ensure adherence to NEC.
• Logs inspection reports into computer.
• Enforces stop work orders when a job is being done without permits or by a licensed electrician.
• Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree is preferred; and three (3) years as Journeyman electrician on a variety of construction and installation jobs; at least one (1) year as Master Electrician and Certifications by The International Code Council and other recognized organizations, Residential and Commercial Building, Residential and Commercial Mechanical, Residential and Commercial Plumbing and Gas, NABCEP (solar), and others pertaining to the department responsibilities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a Journeyman or Master licensed electrician issued by the State of Arkansas. Must be licensed as an Electrical Inspector by the State of Arkansas within 6 months after hire. Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. The Electrical Inspector will not be permitted to engage in the electrical trade or to be associated with any contractor or phase of construction.
