The District headquarters are located in Dallas with branch offices in Abilene, Amarillo, Fort Worth and Lubbock. Job Description Assistant United States Attorneys in the Civil Division represent the United States in affirmative and defensive litigation throughout the Northern District of Texas and in civil appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In affirmative litigation, AUSAs pursue civil penalties and restitution for violations of the False Claims Act, healthcare fraud, immigration, the Controlled Substances Act, and other statutes. In defensive matters, AUSAs defend U.S. agencies, officers, and the government in cases involving immigration, employment, tort, regulatory, administrative, and constitutional issues. The primary focus of this position is affirmative and civil defensive casework related to illegal immigration, trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings, public‑fiscal fraud, and other activities connected to transnational criminal organizations designated as foreign terrorist organizations and specially designated global terrorists. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress. Required Qualifications Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and have at least one year of post‑J.D. legal or other relevant experience. U.S. citizenship is required. Applicants must be an active member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction. Preferred Qualifications Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities. Advanced analytical capability and the ability to articulate critical issues clearly. Functional foundation allowing the applicant to hit the ground running and solve problems independently. Reliability, supportiveness, willingness to share credit, and proactive contribution of ideas. Proficient computer literacy, including automated internet research, electronic court filing, and electronic e‑mail and word processing systems. At least two to three years of post‑J.D. experience is desirable. Salary and Benefits Assistant United States Attorney pay is determined administratively based on years of professional legal experience. The basic pay range is $83,435.00 to $162,000.00, including 27.26% locality pay. Travel and Relocation Travel of 1 to 5 nights per month is required. Relocation expenses are not authorized; a relocation incentive may be considered based on qualifications.
