Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring an MD or compact RN license and 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• Work in the ICU at a hospital setting
• Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients, with rare adolescent cases (ages 15-17, adult-like)
• Diagnoses include MICU/SICU, surgical abdominal, neuro cervical spine, post-ops, cardiac medical, MI, chest pain, pneumonia, sepsis, ARDS, cardiogenic shock, OD, and post cath (no trauma cases)
• Manages pressors and sedation drugs including Epi, Lido, Milrinone, Precedex, Cleviprex, Nicardipine, and Propofol
• Uses specialized equipment including vents, CRRT (Next Stage preferred experience), IABP, and proning (experience preferred)
• Patient ratio of 1:2 (max 3 for lower acuity patients)
• Schedule is 3x12 hour rotating day/night shifts (7:00-19:30 / 19:00-07:30), primarily days with rotating nights based on department needs
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required to IMC, CSU, and within specialty and lower acuity units as needed
• On-call not required, though staff may be asked to pick up shifts during call-outs
• Epic charting system experience preferred

Requirements

• Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA only)
• CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version currently the only acceptable online vendor)
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Respiratory skills required including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Cardiovascular skills required including titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, dysrhythmia management, and 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Neurological skills required including CVA/acute stroke management, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery management
• Renal skills required including CRRT/CVVHD and management of chronic/acute renal failure
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, paralytics/neuromuscular blockade, and emergency medications required
• Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing services to a diverse ICU patient population with complex cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and renal needs
• Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions, and are prioritized for floating assignments
• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless local acceptance is specified
• Returning staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a travel nurse
• Returning travelers must wait at least 6 months after completing an assignment before returning to the same system
• Most locations allow one contract and one extension, after which a 6-month break is required before returning to the same facility or unit
• Maximum of 7 days RTO can be requested; more than 4 consecutive days requires an additional week added to the back end of new contracts
• One major holiday off during the winter season may be accommodated depending on location and unit
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this position due to the travel experience requirement
