Behavioral Specialist

Job Summary The Behavioral Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting people in achieving their personal dreams and goals. Responsibilities Assess each individual receiving services for their hopes, dreams, and goals and provide supports that facilitate achievement. Assist individuals in participating fully in their community consistent with their interests. Ensure that the rights of each individual are protected and promoted at all times. Assist individuals in developing advocacy skills, participating in advocacy efforts, and utilizing personal advocates. Provide support as needed to meet the emotional, physical, and social needs of each individual. Facilitate person-centered, effective, positive relationships using positive approaches that promote self-determination. Provide input and recommendations into assessment and planning processes and the development of individual plans. Implement an individual’s plan fully within the requirements of the service definition, documenting all requirements. Complete all required documentation, including goal completion, action toward outcomes, incident reports, timesheets, and daily progress notes. Assist individuals with day-to-day household operations such as housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, lawn care, vehicle cleanliness, and maintenance. Drive and travel as required; arrange or provide transportation to individuals when needed. Assist individuals with knowledge of emergency procedures and personal safety, including fire safety drills and equipment inspections. Facilitate access to community resources, including recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities, and services for life skills and mental health or substance abuse support. Assist individuals in developing natural resources and connecting with social support networks. Provide orientation, mentoring, and training to new or current staff. Sleepovers at a residential setting may be required. Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required. Maintain certification in all agency, state, and federal training requirements. Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal statutes related to program areas. Follow service definition guidelines for services provided. Complete any other relevant responsibilities assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (required). Valid U.S. Driver’s License. Experience working with children or adults with mental health diagnoses, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders (not required).
