Position Overview

We are on the lookout for a Registered Respiratory Therapist to become part of our dedicated team. We are excited to offer a $20,000 sign-on bonus for new external candidates!*

• Schedule: Full-time, Night Shift. 36 hours per week, consisting of three 12-hour shifts. Rotating weekends and holidays.
• Shift Differentials: Available for night shifts, weekends, and additional shifts.
• Licensure: RRT MO Licensure is mandatory.

*Note: Only qualified external candidates will be eligible for the sign-on bonus and relocation programs.

Job Summary:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is a healthcare professional responsible for executing all diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care procedures as outlined by the Department of Respiratory Care. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and driven to contribute to the success of our expanding services. In uncertain situations, the therapist should consult with supervisory staff.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

Essential job accountabilities include:

1. Maintain professional and respectful relationships with colleagues to foster a culture of safety.
2. Conduct all respiratory-related therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in line with departmental policies and protocols. This includes (50% of time):
   • Implementing and assessing the function of oxygen and therapeutic gases.
   • Ensuring proper setup and execution of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
   • Administering aerosolized medications.
   • Providing CPT and IPV.
   • Setting up and monitoring ventilators according to departmental and hospital guidelines.
   • Collaborating with peers and staff to enhance inter- and intra-departmental services and addressing issues as they arise.
   • Performing CPR.
   • Conducting diagnostic procedures such as ABG analysis, pulse oximetry, and nitric oxide pulmonary hypertension studies.
3. Ensure thorough assessment of each patient’s condition to determine care needs and reassess as necessary based on treatment outcomes.
   • Monitor vital signs before and after therapy.
   • Evaluate breath sounds pre- and post-therapy.
   • Verify physician orders for therapy.
   • Conduct pre- and post-assessments for therapy tolerance and response.
   • Assess oxygen requirements.
   • Examine sputum characteristics.
   • Document other patient-specific observations as needed.
4. Special duties may include interaction with physicians and nurses, potentially in an intensive care unit setting (25% of time):
   • Responding to critical areas (e.g., ER, OR, Code).
   • Performing routine checks on Life Support Units.
   • Assisting with bronchoscopy procedures and minor cardiopulmonary invasive or surgical tasks.
   • Providing tracheotomy care.
   • Conducting bedside studies and interpreting complex lab data.
   • Contributing to patient care decisions on and off life support systems.
   • Assisting in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia based on current evidence.
5. Execute all other aspects of Respiratory Care in accordance with hospital policies (5% of time):
   • Participating in departmental meetings and in-services as required.
   • Documenting time and attendance accurately.
   • Communicating with physicians regarding therapies and goals.
6. Perform additional duties as assigned (5% of time):
   • Cleaning and sterilizing respiratory and bronchoscopy equipment.
   • Conducting routine maintenance on respiratory equipment.
   • Maintaining organized work and storage areas.
   • Keeping accurate records.
   • Answering phones professionally and promptly.
7. Adhere to safety and infection control policies (5% of time):
   • Practicing universal precautions and disposing of hazardous waste appropriately.
   • Maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
   • Reporting risk management concerns.
   • Completing all annual mandatory training requirements.
   • Working in a constant state of alertness and safety.
8. Deliver exceptional service to patients by providing timely, high-quality care in a respectful manner (10% of time):
   • Explaining therapy procedures to patients prior to initiation.
   • Being courteous to patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
   • Respecting patient rights and maintaining confidentiality.
9. Incorporate Quality Improvement (QI) into daily tasks (5% of time):
   • Assisting with data collection for reporting.
   • Completing documentation promptly and accurately.
   • Following policies and procedures in care administration.
   • Reporting quality issues to management.
10. Provide age-appropriate care to various patient demographics:
    • Infant
    • Child
    • Adolescent
    • Adult
    • Geriatric
11. Deliver specialized care to high-risk patients (less than 1% of time):
    • Managing restraint care and pain management.
    • Assessing for signs of abuse and reporting as necessary.

Job Specifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program preferred.

Minimum Experience: Leadership skills are advantageous and should be demonstrated.

Required Licensure: Registered with the N.B.R.C and licensed in the state of Missouri within six months of hire.

Independent Action: Must exhibit the ability to deliver high-quality therapy with moderate supervision and make independent decisions in both critical and non-critical care settings.

Working Conditions

May involve exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous anesthetic agents, and other unpleasant elements. The role requires the ability to respond quickly in emergencies and handle moderate weights.
