Youth Development Professional Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, United States About this position Description: POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title Youth Development Professional (After School Teacher) Department Operations Primary Location McKenzie Family Boys & Girls Club-232 Windsor Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 Reports To Program Director Position Level Individual Contributor Direct Service Position Yes (What percentage: 100%) Exemption Status Nonexempt (Hourly) Pay Range $16.25-17.50 per hour based upon work experience Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County is looking to hire Youth Development Professionals for our 2026-2027 Academic School Year at our McKenzie Family Club! The McKenzie Family Club provides after school programming and recreational activities to youth aged 5-12 years old. We are looking for fun, reliable, energetic individuals who have a passion for working with youth! POSITION SUMMARY & OVERALL OBJECTIVES The Youth Development Professional (YDP) plans and implements fun and engaging activities within BGCDCs 5 key program areas; Healthy Lifestyles, Character & Leadership, Sports & Recreation, Academic Success and the Arts within a DCF 251 licensed after school program. Additionally, the YDP will implement grant funded initiatives. The YDP will supervise and work with youth ages 5 to 12 and are responsible for creating an environment that supports positive youth development, serving as a role model and mentor and ensuring youth safety in an out-of-school environment. YDPs assume a role with a variety of age groups or be temporarily assigned to a specific group in the event of an absence. This position may include occasional evenings/weekend hours to accommodate special events, field trips, and community programs. The YDP is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties to support the organization's objectives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The fundamental, crucial job duties; the functions the position exists to perform Prepare Youth for Success: 30% Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes that foster inclusivity and support members' needs. Provide positive guidance, role modeling, and daily support to members. Promote and ensure program participation. Program Development and Implementation 30% Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging activities for youth (5-12 years of age), ensuring academic success with grant-funded outcomes are being met. Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure high-quality programming. Maintain a Safe Environment: 30% Always ensure the physical and emotional safety of members Implement positive behavior management techniques Always adhere to all regulations specified in DCF 251 and BGCDC policies. Provide site and sound supervision to members Follow all tracking and attendance procedures. Administer first-aid and complete necessary documentation. Always uphold the appearance of the Club through a sanitary and organized program space. Ensure a Professional Work Environment: 10% Maintain an environment that supports volunteers and community partners. Contributing to the Club climate for youth development includes program collaboration, attendance, and active participation in staff meetings and training (daily, weekly, and organizational). Participate in the Young Star program evaluation process. Maintain a professional appearance and communicate professionally to effectively represent the Boys & Girls Clubs brand. RELATIONSHIPS Internal and external relationships are essential to the role. Internal: As an integral part of our team, you will maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (both professional and volunteer), Club members, and your supervisor. This continuous communication ensures the seamless exchange of information, facilitates discussions on pertinent issues, clarifies guidelines and instructions, provides instruction and guidance, and offers counseling when necessary. External: Externally, you will maintain contact as needed with various community groups, schools, members' families, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and assist in resolving any arising issues. By actively engaging with these external partners, you contribute to creating a supportive network and ensuring the well‑being of our members within the broader community. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The objective and measurable knowledge, skills, and abilities an employee must possess to successfully perform this job. Ability to work with youth from ages 5-12 Problem‑Solving Skills Field Trip Supervision At least 18 years of age Eligibility as a Caregiver by the Department of Children and Families 251 Successful completion of drug test, background check and physical examination. The ability and desire to work with youth in various settings. Strong verbal, written, and communication skills. Program Group Leader Certified within 3 months of accepting role (training provided) CPR within 3 months of accepting role (training provided) Physical requirements Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals. The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts, and/or technical information with others. Ability to visually monitor the activities of club members. The employee must be able to perform CPR or first aid. The employee must use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, jump, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.? Recreational activities occur in an indoor and outdoor setting. Requirements: Education and Experience The required minimum allowable education and experience, based on job-related requirements. Include licensing and certifications if applicable. High School Diploma/GED/HSED At least 240 hours previous experience working with youth in a licensed childcare or comparable environment, preferred Required Hours Typical working hours and travel. This position is classified as non-exempt and part-time, temporary, requiring availability during operational hours to fulfill the essential duties of the role. The position requires occasional travel to off‑site Clubs, meetings, and events. Typical working hours - M ,T, W, F between the hours of 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Thursdays are early release days.
