Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing basic nursing duties. The role includes executing physician orders and assisting in examinations and treatments. Operate pill call and sick call as required. Assist in preparing examining rooms and maintaining medical equipment. Dispense medication and document as required by established policies. Control medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment. Perform emergency procedures as needed and maintain a clean work area. Document and report activities in accordance with established policies. Assist supervisor in evaluating the provision of all medical services. Maintain confidentiality of all medical records. Observe and record inmate/resident behavior. Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports accurately. Read and interpret medical and technical procedures and governmental regulations. Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary. Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, and visitors. Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment. Facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing required medical services. Prepare safety and accident reports as required by policies. Escort or coordinate the movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment. Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries accurately. Engage in functions in confined areas, including ensuring security. Be aware of potential verbal abuse in a challenging environment.
