Substitute Food Service Assistant

Reports To: Kitchen Manager

Pay Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Classified, Non-Supervisory

Pay Rate: $13 / hr.

Benefits: Not eligible

Schedule: As-Needed; Up to 7 hrs. / day; Up to 188 days / yr.; Follows school calendar

Duties And Responsibilities:

• Assists in the preparation, serving, and selling of foods inside a school cafeteria
• Assists in the cleaning of the kitchen and snack bar areas
• Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of utensils and equipment
• May also assist receiving cash or tickets and maintaining simple records
• Attends all mandatory training
• Maintains proper food safety and sanitation procedures
• Willing to perform all duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager which may include, but are not limited to the following: Cashiering Serving Preparing Food Washing Dishes Cleaning

Job Specifications:

• Education, Training, and Experience Required: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Experience in a Food Service environment (Schools preferred) ServSafe Certification preferred
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics: Displays positive and enthusiastic attitude Ability to work as a team with other staff Displays dependability and punctuality Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and stand on feet for long periods of time

Working Conditions:

• Position works indoors in a typical school cafeteria/kitchen area
• May work near others, often within a few feet
• Often will be exposed to noisy and distracting environments
• Often will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures
• Occasionally will work near contaminants and hazardous equipment
