Rangeland Management Specialist

You will serve as a Rangeland Management Specialist performing duties that involve professional work conserving, developing, and managing public rangelands. You may be required to travel on occasion for field work, meetings, and/or trainings. You must obtain a government charge chard for travel purposes. Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Requirements Continued... Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/04/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Minimum Qualification Requirements : To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: Basic Educational Requirement AND/OR Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. Basic Educational Requirements : In addition to the specialized experience requirements for this position, you must meet at least one of the following: A. Degree: Range Management; or a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows: Range Management -- At least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements, and ranch or rangeland planning. Directly Related Plant, Animal, and Soil Sciences -- At least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal, and soil sciences, including at least one course in each of these three scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences. Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable. Related Resource Management Studies -- At least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management. B. Combination of education and experience: at least 42 semester hours of course work in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resources management shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must also meet the qualifications below: GS-05: Applicants who meet the basic education qualification requirements are fully qualified at the GS-05 level.

GS-07:

Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: drafting conservation plans; assisting with technical surveys; and reviewing range permit applications. You must include hours per week worked. -or- Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level education which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. You must include transcripts. -or- Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): Successfully completed a bachelor's degree in a directly related field AND meet one of the following: (1) Class Standing: rank in the upper 3rd of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, based on the completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (GPA): earn a GPA of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) based on 4 years of education, or based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum -or- (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field, or the required courses completed during the final two years. Note: GPA will be rounded to one decimal place, for example, 2.95 = 3.0, 2.94 = 2.9; OR (3) Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society. -or- Combination of education and experience . Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: developing conservation plans; assisting with designing technical surveys; and reviewing range permit applications for compliance. -or- Education: Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. You must include transcripts. -or- Combination of education and experience . Combination of specialized experience and graduate education described that when combined totals 100% of the requirements for this position. You must include hours per week and transcripts.

Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: evaluating conservation plans; conducting biological analyses of public rangeland projects; designing technical surveys; and reviewing range permit applications for compliance. -or- Education: Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. You must include transcripts. -or- Combination of education and experience . Combination of specialized experience and graduate education described that when combined totals 100% of the requirements for this position. You must include hours per week and transcripts.
