Respiratory Therapist II (RRT), PT Days (Non-NICU)

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem‑patient situations, spending the majority of time in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient, family and support‑system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self‑developmental activities. The RT II addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of patients and participates in the education of new employees and others. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provide customer service: completion of patient care, documentation and education. Team approach to service: promote a team spirit, a positive work environment, and a supportive environment for students and staff. Administer quality patient care: perform patient assessment and assessment for therapy. Collaborate with health‑care team members in planning patient care. Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen and medical gas therapy. Perform ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care). Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educate patients and mentor or precept new employees, students and peers. Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures and pulmonary diagnostic testing (location specific). Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Promote high level of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.). Promote performance‑improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promote evidence‑based practice. Review revised and new DPPs. Perform other duties as assigned. Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s Respiratory Therapy – Preferred. Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapy RCP – Respiratory Care Prof BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor Additional License(s) and Certification(s) Required Minimum Experience: 0‑2 years clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Ability to communicate well, critical‑thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases.
