Primary Purpose Assist in preparation and serving the appropriate quantities of food to meet planned menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, safety practices, and customer service. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with general kitchen tasks Cook and prepare meals according to the menu Serve food according to meal schedules and procedures Ensure portion control Maintain order and cleanliness of the kitchen Follow safety guidelines when operating equipment Follow all industry standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation Ensure counting and claiming process are followed according to USDA/TDA guidelines Carry out other specific kitchen roles (e.g., dishwasher, cashier, push meals to other areas of school) Provide good customer service to maintain good customer relationships Process cash handlings accurate and in timely fashion Qualifications Education and Experience High School diploma or GED preferred; may substitute equivalent work experience for diploma preference. Experience in school food service/food service Special Skills and Certifications Possess current Food Handler Permit (or ability to obtain within first 20 days of hire) Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures Capability to operate small and large kitchen equipment and tools Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions Required Skills and Abilities Communication Skills: ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents. Bilingual Skills: ability to read, analyze, and apply understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral English. Technology skills: ability to learn and use software as necessary (POS, clock in and out, etc.), use basic office equipment, perform basic arithmetic operations. Physical Demands and Environmental Factors Stand and walk for entire shift Reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist and bend often Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat Additional Information Criminal records check, pre‑hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Work Environment The work environment requires proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended periods viewing a computer screen and standing, and noise levels from moderate to high. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature.
