Maintenance Technician - 2nd Shift

The Extrusion Maintenance Technician Level II is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of extrusion equipment and supporting systems. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production goals through proactive and corrective maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities include performing preventive and predictive maintenance on extrusion lines and auxiliary equipment, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, diagnosing equipment failures and implementing corrective actions, and assisting with die changes, calibrations, and setup support.

Additionally, the technician will identify root causes of equipment failures and recurring issues, read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings, perform basic PLC diagnostics including input/output checks, participate in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives, recommend improvements to increase uptime and efficiency, support 5S and TPM initiatives, follow all safety procedures including LOTO, ensure repairs meet OSHA and company standards, maintain clean and organized work areas, document maintenance work and downtime in CMMS, communicate shift status to team members, work with production, supervisors, and engineering, provide support during startups and shutdowns, and train Level I technicians on basic maintenance tasks.

Education and experience required include a high school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred, and 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in extrusion. Technical skills include knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics, basic PLC troubleshooting experience, and ability to use diagnostic and precision tools. Preferred experience includes extrusion equipment including screws, dies, and downstream equipment, heating/cooling systems and tooling maintenance. Competencies include strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, good communication and teamwork, attention to detail and time management. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and climbing, and working in heat, noise, and industrial conditions. Work environment includes a manufacturing plant setting and may require overtime and shift work. Level II differentiation includes independently troubleshooting most issues, handling moderately complex repairs without supervision, mentoring junior technicians, and participating in improvement initiatives.
