RN, Float Pool (SRU)

Unit Overview Unit: SRU: Specialty Resource Unit/SRU services – 17 inpatient units, including Critical Care. Three specialty teams: trauma, transport, and telehealth. 97% of nurses are BSN, 37% are clinically advanced. Orientation is phased from general populations to more complex units. Mission is to provide high-quality personnel and resources to support inpatient units across Cincinnati Children’s, promoting child safety and health. Work Hours and Shift Hours: 32 hours per week. Shift: 2nd and 3rd shift. Job Responsibilities Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in compliance efforts to meet and sustain regulatory compliance of the department and hospital. Monitor and comply with safety and departmental policies and procedures, ensuring timely fulfillment of individual certifications and Safety College requirements. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices and comply with CMS standards. Use systems thinking to support care coordination and patient/family integration within the unit environment. Collect clinical data; follow algorithms, decision trees, and protocols to make appropriate decisions; document plan of care, delivered care, and patient/family outcomes. Integrate age‑specific concepts into patient care, anticipating future needs, maintaining a safe environment, and providing teach‑back education. Follow standards and guidelines, implement evidence‑based practices, recognize opportunities for learning, and perform self‑appraisal, peer review, and annual goal setting for competence and professional development. Facilitate learning by assisting peer and student experiences and sharing safety best practices with managers, nurse council and magnet representatives. Participate in shared governance, contributing to council decisions and interdisciplinary team discussions. Consistently apply the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM), advocacy, moral agency, and cultural inclusion in patient and family care. Job Qualifications Associate/Diploma RNs from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institutions with 2+ years of experience. If hired without a BSN or MSN, must enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete it within 5 years. Preferred: BSN or MSN. Active Ohio RN license; other state licensure may be required. Foreign graduates must have their license validated through TruMerit per Ohio Board of Nursing code for foreign graduates.
