Building HVAC Controls Project Manager

What you will do Act as the on‑site project leader to plan, execute, and complete control systems projects with assigned customers. Lead project planning, resource coordination, and scheduling to ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery. Specify hardware design, system programming, and installation coordination for HVAC control systems. Oversee system and network commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of complete system functionality. Provide as‑built documentation, commissioning reports, and warranty paperwork to customers. Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Manage project financials, including cost tracking, billing, collections, and profitability analysis. Proactively identify and pursue additional work through change orders and client‑issued directives. Maintain compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations and Johnson Controls safety and ethical standards. Develop and nurture relationships with contractors, consultants, and subcontractors to support project success. Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance to on‑site technicians and subcontractors. Document and communicate project status, forecasts, and performance metrics to management. Execute ordering, budgeting, and delivery scheduling for project materials and supplies, ensuring timely procurement and cost control. Required Qualifications Minimum of a technical associate’s degree with four years of field experience, or six years of equivalent related field experience in HVAC/Building Automation. Hands‑on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC/Building Automation control systems. Strong HVAC controls knowledge combined with customer communication, organizational, and project leadership skills. Verbal and written communication proficiency, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. Ability to work independently and perform tasks accurately and on schedule. Proficiency in Windows, Excel, and related software tools. Knowledge of control theory, HVAC/Building Automation systems, and project accounting principles. Experience with project cost accounting, pricing, and contracting preferred. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or additional qualifications with six years of HVAC industry experience. Experience preparing status reports for upper management regarding project progress. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety. Compensation and Benefits Competitive base salary with a target range of $90,500–$135,000, determined by education, experience, and market data.
