Registered Nurse ED & Acute Care (72 hrs./PP, Rotating third weekend)

Job Title
Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.
Job Duties

- Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
- Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
- Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process.
- Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation.
- Performs with minimal supervision, exercises good judgment to reduce errors.
- Demonstrates willingness to work extra shifts if needed.
- Demonstrates a willingness to train new staff.
- Attends annual skills fair.
- Uses personal protective equipment that is appropriate for the given task.
- Reports accidents or incidents and safety hazards promptly.
- Cleans equipment, spills, etc. as necessary.
- Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies.
- Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output.
- Identifies needs and concerns involving safety/risk management and quality improvement issues, participates in the research, action, and evaluation of proposed resolutions/interventions.
Required Education and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota
- At least 1 year of experience working in an Emergency Department is required.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota
Certifications
- Required at Hire:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Required Within 6 Months of Hire:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Required Within 1 year of Hire:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Additional Training
- All newly hired RNs will receive in?house trauma training within the first year of employment.
- This training meets the educational objectives of the Minnesota State Trauma System, unless the RN has previously completed one of the following:
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS)
- Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)
- Certified Acute Trauma Nurse (CATN)
- Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
