Summary

Performs duties of acquiring, developing, or contracting for new power generation or energy storage resources to meet SRP needs and strategic objectives. Performs competitive procurement processes for generation resources, completes comprehensive evaluation of resource project proposals, including quantitative analysis and strategic risk assessments, and conducts complex transaction negotiations with developers and power producers. Conducts analysis of resource options, including emerging technologies. Performs contract administration activities, including enforcement of contractual obligations and performance metrics and engaging in dispute resolution with counterparties. Supports implementation of contracted renewable and energy storage projects, including tracking development activities, assessing risks, and developing risk mitigation strategies.

What You'll Do

• Develop, issue, and manage competitive procurement processes for new generation resources, including Requests for Proposals or engaging in strategic bilateral partnerships.
• Perform comprehensive evaluation of generation resource and energy storage project proposals and options, including quantitative analysis and strategic project risk assessments.
• Negotiate complex power procurement transactions valued in the millions to hundreds of millions of dollars, including power purchase agreements, energy storage agreements, and power plant acquisitions.
• Optimize agreement templates for strategic negotiation, consulting with external experts, as well as business, technical engineering and operations teams, to strategically incorporate favorable business and legal terms, as well as technical design requirements and operational provisions to provide improved reliability, flexibility, and value to SRP.
• Support implementation of contracted resource projects and manage generation resource supplier relationships; track and report project development activities (permitting, interconnection, equipment procurement), assessing risks and developing risk mitigation strategies. Coordinate with internal technical engineering and operations teams to ensure successful resource implementations.
• Oversee the administration of contracts and coordinate with other SRP departments; manage administration of contract portfolio valued in billions of dollars.
• Monitor and report contract milestones, create critical task reminders, ensure SRP compliance with contractual obligations, monitor, and enforce performance metrics.
• Engage in dispute resolution of complex issues with counterparties.
• Leads cross-functional project teams on significant departmental and company initiatives and communicates results to various levels of SRP management and external stakeholders.
• Develops and maintains strategic alliances with power producers, renewable and energy storage developers, internal stakeholders, and industry leaders.
• Perform economic, operational, and statistical analysis of new generation and demand-side resource options and emissions control alternatives, including emerging technologies.
• Assess electric transmission requirements.
• Perform strategic competitive market and business studies and analysis.
• Develop answers to complex, open-ended questions involving significant uncertainty and ambiguity with meaningful economic and operational implications.
• Conduct investigation and evaluation of future resource options to meet SRP's load requirements and achieve corporate strategic goals. These decisions have a direct and lasting impact on SRP's financial performance, reliability and achieving sustainability goals. 
• Present results of analysis and recommended courses of action to various internal and external stakeholders

Education

A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

Experience

This position may be filled at one of three levels outlined below, based on the candidate’s relevant education, experience, or a combination of both that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Level I — Associate: In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years may be considered.

Level 2 – Journey: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years may be considered.

Level 3 – Senior: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years may be considered. Eligibility for advancement (progression) to the next level in the same role is based on overall job performance, mastery of all functional responsibilities, and time in position, as assessed by the supervisor.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
