Registered Nurse - Critical Care Float

Position Summary The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse uses the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation that is culturally competent across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensuring its consistency with the medical treatment plan. The patient care process includes: Assessment – an orderly process consisting of the identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural. Planning – an organized step in the process that involves identifying actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care. The plan of care provides direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team. Intervention – the specific interventions or orders that are implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan. Evaluation – a step in the process that involves determining the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and determining conclusions concerning the achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. The evaluation may initiate the need for reassessment and revisions to problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions. This step provides for documentation of required actions. Based upon findings identified during assessment and reassessment: Patients have problems identified and prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational, and social status. Goals are identified consistent with the problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion. Education is consistent with the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment. Employee may be required to perform Limited Laboratory Services to include: patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing, instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording, and reporting test results to clinicians (including critical values), and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties. Licensed and registered care providers are responsible for utilizing the care process relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base, may document the assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy. The Registered Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team. By participating in educational activities, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or a current multi‑state license required. BLS required. Valid NJ Driver’s License required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained appropriately and the skill will be required within 30‑60 days from date of hire. Preferred Qualifications Specialty experience: Advanced Certification required, certification in Emergency Room, City 2‑4 years medical/surgical experience preferred; 2 years emergency room experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months of initial assignment and continuously maintained thereafter; all registered professional nurses after 24 months of initial assignment will have completion of ATCN or TNCC. Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic trauma assessment, intervention and stabilization; PALS or ENPC provider status attained within 12 months of initial assignment and continuously maintained thereafter. Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment, intervention and NIHSS to be completed by 6 months of hire and continuously maintained thereafter. Additional specialty experience for various units such as Labor and Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Mother/Baby Unit, Perinatology, Operating Room, Critical Care (ICU), Medical/Surgical, Dialysis, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Radiology, Cath Lab, Trauma ICU, Oncology, Endoscopy, Cardiac Diagnostic, Cardiovascular ICU, Progressive Cardiac Care, Progressive Care unit, Telemetry, and Radiation (details retained for all listed units). Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards and risk of the hospital environment, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching; extensive standing and walking, including stairs. Lifting approximately 25‑50 pounds frequently; lifting approximately 50 to 100 pounds with assistance occasionally. Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment; transporting patients on stretchers unassisted; manual dexterity to hand off instruments. Operating in small work areas congested with cords, foot pedals, and various equipment consoles. Unit Populations Served The following patient populations are served: Bariatric morbid obese adults; Cath Lab cardiac/vascular conditions; Critical Care acute medical/surgical care; Behavioral Health illnesses; Dialysis patients; Endoscopy; Emergency Department; Intermediate Care; Medical Surgical; Telemetry; Wound Care; and Structural Heart. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the patient care unit or department leadership.
