Registered Nurse - Telemetry

This position involves providing optimal patient care through the application of nursing knowledge and skills. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for individualized patient outcomes throughout the entire episode of care, servicing adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients along with their families or caregivers.

Unit Description

The telemetry unit consists of 38 beds and is staffed with Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Critical Care Technicians (CCTs), and Advanced Care Technicians (ACTs). Patient ratios are typically maintained at 1:4 to 1:6, based on patient acuity and workload. CCTs monitor ECG rhythms for all telemetry patients around the clock. ACTs assist with patient transport, admissions and discharges, IV and Foley insertion, activities of daily living, and limited medication administration. Additional support services include a Rapid Response Team, phlebotomists, EKG technicians, and Respiratory Therapists.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings and respond to changes in patient conditions.
• Provide care for patients with conditions such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), alcohol withdrawal, NSTEMI, sepsis, dysrhythmias, pneumonia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and post-procedure management.
• Administer medications, including non-titratable cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Lasix, Nitro).
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
• Engage with family members in the care process as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Nevada is required prior to starting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications must be current upon hire.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of Telemetry experience is required.
• Successful completion of a telemetry competency exam, which includes the identification and measurement of rhythm strips, is necessary.
• Previous travel nursing experience of one 13-week assignment is required.

Additional Information

Traveling staff may be required to float to locations within their competency level as necessary. Employees will be expected to work major holidays and pick up one additional shift every four weeks. Schedules may vary based on unit needs and can include weekends and holidays. The facility reserves the right to request staff scheduling adjustments due to low census.

Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and busy, serving a large geographical area. The facility is recognized as a Level II trauma center and provides advanced medical services, including a variety of complex medical and surgical procedures.
