Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician ensures that all production materials and finished products meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This role focuses on inspecting and testing materials, accurately documenting results, and clearly communicating findings to the Production team. The technician identifies nonconforming or defective materials, places them on hold when necessary, and supports continuous improvement of production processes and product quality.

Responsibilities

• Inspect production output samples using industry-appropriate methods, including comparing materials to standards, measuring dimensions, and examining functionality.
• Verify that production operations adhere to established standards, procedures, and all company and safety requirements.
• Review company and customer specifications and compare them to in-process and finished materials to ensure compliance.
• Record inspection results by completing detailed reports, summarizing rework and waste, and entering data into the quality database.
• Train production team members on quality control measures and best practices to improve product excellence.
• Propose improvements to production processes to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
• Perform standard maintenance on measurement equipment to ensure accurate and reliable operation.
• Use various testing and measuring equipment to evaluate material properties such as density, elasticity, and clarity.
• Collect, compile, and analyze statistical quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Assist in the development of test methods and inspection plans for new or existing products and processes.
• Determine causes of product defects and rework and collaborate with production teams to implement corrective actions.
• Properly operate all quality testing equipment in Lab #2, including Micrometer, Co-Efficient of Friction tester, Elmendorf Tear Tester, Haze-Gard Tester, Vertical Impact Dart Tester, Dyne Level Treat Pens, Width measurement tools, SIT Seal Initiation testing equipment, and OTR Oxygen transmission rate testing equipment.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2 years of quality control or quality assurance experience.
• Hands-on experience with quality inspection in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in using micrometers and other measuring tools for precise dimensional checks.
• Ability to perform detailed quality inspections and accurately identify nonconforming materials.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to determine causes of defects and rework.
• Competence in data collection and data entry for quality records and databases.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs safely as part of routine duties.
• Understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles and practices.
• Ability to train others on quality control measures and procedures.
• Capability to operate specialized quality testing equipment such as friction testers, tear testers, haze testers, impact dart testers, and oxygen transmission rate testers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with statistical quality data collection and compilation.
• Experience reviewing and working with company and customer specifications.
• Ability to propose and support process improvements related to product quality.
• Comfort working in a production environment with continuous operations.
• Attention to detail and strong documentation skills for reports and quality records.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very clean manufacturing facility that operates three plastic extrusion machines running 24/7. You work in and around production areas and quality labs, using a range of specialized testing and measuring equipment to evaluate material properties and product performance. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety and quality standards, with structured procedures and documentation. You should be comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs, and working in a continuous production setting where precision, cleanliness, and reliability are essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hayward, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
