Underwriter Trainee

Position Summary The Underwriter Trainee is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of existing policy information for renewals, communicating effectively with clients for information gathering, and supporting the underwriting process through precise documentation. The role conducts risk assessments and audits for insurance applications, calculates premium, and generates reports. They ensure strict adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and compliance standards in all underwriting activities. Job Responsibilities Evaluate and maintain existing policy information to ensure data is current, accurate, and appropriately priced for renewal. Respond to client requests and questions, offering information and advice regarding the insurance products and underwriting appetite. Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, resolve inquiries, and ensure a smooth underwriting process. Prepare and organize documentation related to underwriting submissions and policy issuance. Assess risks associated with individual insurance applications, considering both standard and substandard criteria. Provide support in premium calculations, ensuring accurate application of rates based on underwriting guidelines. Build and maintain reports on underwriting activities, key performance indicators, and relevant metrics. Conduct internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information related to underwriting activities. Ensure adherence to company policies, guidelines, industry regulations, and compliance standards in underwriting activities. Collaborate with underwriting teams to relay information, coordinate tasks, and contribute to the overall underwriting process. Serve as the key point of contact for customers and agents, delivering excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience for them. Work Experience and Education Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Actuarial, or Business Administration required. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered. 2+ years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting. Licenses & Certifications State P&C and/or surplus line licenses are required. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is a plus. Benefits and Compensation The target hourly rate range for this position is $20.45 - $26.00 per hour. Pay range considers factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands.
