School Nurse

The person in this role will be responsible to create a climate of health and well-being within the school environment. He/she will also function as a child advocate in areas of health and safety. Essential functions include, but are not limited to, coordinating the health program within the assigned school, supervising and administering health screenings, auditing health records for immunization status, serving as a health resource person, providing emergency health care, maintaining health records, complying with school, district, and state laws, and performing other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures. Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures. Completion of additional coursework or training sessions for school nursing preferred, including New School Nurse Seminar, if appropriate. A professional commitment to attend workshops and continuing education activities required. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Possession of a current Arizona RN license, basic CPR certificate, and an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, 2 years recent experience in a public nursing, medical, pediatric, or emergency room setting is required. OR, any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Must possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Must be able to pass a background clearance check. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona drivers license. May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds. May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds. May be required to work outside normal working hours. May be required to travel to perform work functions.

Salaries are based on a 196-day schedule. Nurses are also eligible for holiday pay based on their full-time status. This does not reflect the 3 furlough days approved for the 2026-2027 school year. New hires are placed at the highest level of education completed at time of hire. Up to 10 years of experience may be granted above the minimum rate. Salary movement following initial placement will be available due to Professional Growth and/or annual increases approved by the Governing Board. This position is eligible for Classroom Site Fund dollars. Classroom Site Funds are embedded in the initial salary amounts listed above. Initial Salary DOES NOT include Performance Pay. This position is eligible for Performance Pay. Performance pay is paid out in July for eligible employees who met the requirements for the previous year. These amounts vary each year based on funding. Employees could earn up to $2,800. This position is eligible for a Hard to Fill Stipend. The amount varies each year based on funding. RNs are eligible for up to $3,200 and LPNs are eligible for up to $2,200. Employees who have retired with the Arizona State Retirement System and are returning to the District will be placed on the salary schedule at a level equal to a new hire with similar experience and education or at 90% of their last salary from Peoria Unified (whichever is greater), less half of the Alternative Contribution Rate (ACR), as voted on by the Governing Board.
