Wilkes County Veterinary Services is a well-established mixed animal veterinary hospital serving Washington, GA and surrounding rural communities. Our team provides care for companion animals, livestock, and other large-animal patients , offering a hands-on opportunity to build skills across both clinical and field-based veterinary medicine.

We’re looking for a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant who enjoys variety, is comfortable working with both small and large animals, and wants to be part of a close-knit team serving the local community.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

This is a hands-on mixed animal veterinary position supporting veterinarians in the hospital, on farm calls, and during after-hours emergencies.

Clinical & Surgical Support

• Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures for small and large animals
• Safely handle and restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, surgery, and treatment
• Assist with anesthesia, surgical procedures, and patient recovery
• Perform or assist with laboratory testing, radiographs, medication, vaccines, and fluid therapy
• Maintain accurate patient records and support daily hospital workflow

Large Animal & Farm Call Support

• Assist with farm calls and ambulatory veterinary services
• Handle livestock and other large-animal patients safely and confidently
• Prepare equipment, medications, and supplies for off-site visits
• Support veterinarians with routine and emergency large-animal cases

Client & Team Support

• Communicate professionally with clients and provide updates on patient care
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment area
• Work collaboratively with veterinarians and support staff in a fast-paced environment

Schedule & On-Call Expectations

Clinic Hours:
Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM–5:30 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM–12:30 PM
Sunday: Closed

On-Call Rotation – Required

• Approximately 1 night per week or every other week
• Weekend on-call approximately every 6–8 weeks
• Includes after-hours emergency and farm calls for both small and large animals

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1+ year of veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or animal care experience preferred
• Large-animal experience strongly preferred , including livestock or equine
• Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, or similar hands-on animal care experience
• Those with Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credentials encouraged to apply
• Strong animal handling, restraint, patient-care, and teamwork skills
• Comfortable working in a veterinary hospital, farm, and rural field environment
• Able to remain calm and effective during emergency and on-call situations
• Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail
• Ability to lift 40+ lbs. and remain active/on your feet for extended periods
• Willingness to learn and work with a diverse mixed-animal caseload

HeadStart eligibility: Graduated from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program within the last 3 years, passed the VTNE, and holds or is eligible for Georgia LVT licensure.
