Position Title: Speech Language Therapist/Pathologist
Function: Academic Support
Family: Special Education Programs & Services
Reports to: Principal or Special Education Director
Pay Grade: E17 Minimum Salary: $56,474 Mid-Point Salary: $68,614
Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. For more information on our pay policy, please refer to the Compensation Resource Manual. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.
Minimum 187 Type of Assignment: Full-Time; Exempt Contract Type: Non-chapter 21
Funding This position is locally funded.
Supplemental Pay: Based on Available Funds
- Bilingual Stipend (Upon passing fluency test) - $3000 Annually
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) - $3000 Annually
- Stipend for supervision of SLPAs (Speech Language Pathologist Assistant) - $3,000 Annually
- Stipend for supervision of practicum students or intern (Clinical Fellow) - $500.00 Annually
- $5,000 annually following the completion of an entire year of continuous service; distributed for District SLPs; payment to be submitted at the end of the school year.
- $6,000 annually following the completion of 2 years of employment within SAISD and completion of an entire year of continuous service; distributed for District SLPs; payment to be submitted at the end of the school year.
Job Scope Use significant independent judgment and familiarity of the field to perform work. May be responsible for administration of various moderate and high complexity departmental programs and may be the lead of a group of employees. May develop policies and procedures and oversee the implementation and execution of them.
Position Summary Evaluate students for speech disabilities and provide services in communication skills to eligible students with communication disorders.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process, as applicable to the areas of need in speech/language.
- Administer appropriate test instruments to students who are referred for consideration of eligibility as speech impaired (SI) and write reports to reflect the findings.
- Participate in the ARD/IEP committee meeting to select appropriate goals and objectives in the areas of speech and language to remediate areas of weakness identified in standardized testing and classroom performance.
- Develop and implement speech/language therapy that reflects the individual education plan (IEP) for students.
- Maintain written records of the performance of students over time to document progress toward mastery of IEP goals and objectives.
- Assist classroom teachers to make the accommodation needed and instructional support for students with speech/language weaknesses.
- Use technology, including augmentative devices, to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Report on a regular basis, as determined in the ARD/IEP, on the progress of students toward mastery of their IEPs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of achievement through formal and informal methods.
- Create opportunities for students to practice targeted speech/language skills in the therapy sessions and in other environments, such as the campus and home.
- Support the mission of the school district by serving as a positive role model for students.
- Create a supportive therapy environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree of Science in Speech Language Pathology or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed (license equivalent) by the state of Texas as a speech/language pathologist, or American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) equivalent or Certification by TEA as a speech therapist.
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

- Bilingual (Spanish)
- CCC certification
- 5+ years of related experience which may include the following: o Working in an educational setting. o Working within an Agency that providing services. o Working with school-aged and pre-school aged children, including observation and supervised practice, as required for licensure.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated competency in speech/language therapy.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures addressing specific duties/responsibilities of the position of a Speech/Language Pathologist or Therapist.
- Ability to administer and interpret assessment instruments related to communication disorders.
- Ability to develop and implement staff training.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral)
- Knowledge of federal and state laws related to speech therapy services.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents.
- Familiarity with augmentative communication devices.
- Ability to adjust to and be flexible in a multitude of situations in the school environment.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Working Conditions Work Environment:
- Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.
Physical Demands/Requirements:
- Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.

- Supervision of students, speech language pathology assistants, practicum students and interns.
