Castillo Prestress and Castillo Aggregates are seeking a highly skilled, dependable, and motivated Lead Maintenance Mechanic (Preventative Maintenance Lead) with extensive hands-on experience in heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, welding, fabrication, and equipment reliability. This individual will serve as the primary maintenance professional for both Castillo Prestress and Castillo Aggregates and will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and improving all equipment and plant systems across both operations.

This position is responsible for developing, managing, and executing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program while ensuring all equipment remains safe, reliable, and fully operational. The successful candidate will serve as the primary maintenance leader for both facilities, overseeing maintenance activities for mobile equipment, aggregate processing equipment, concrete production equipment, precast/prestressed production equipment, and plant infrastructure.

This position is intended for an experienced maintenance professional who operates as a self-sufficient mechanic and fabricator. The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own professional-grade mechanic's tools as well as portable welding and fabrication equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair work throughout both Castillo Prestress and Castillo Aggregates operations.

This is a working mechanic position, not a desk job or supervisory-only role. The successful candidate will be expected to personally perform maintenance and repairs ranging from routine equipment washing, greasing, inspections, and preventative maintenance to advanced mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, welding, fabrication, and equipment troubleshooting. While this position will lead the preventative maintenance program and help coordinate maintenance activities, the individual filling this role must be willing and capable of performing all maintenance duties required to keep both operations running safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventative Maintenance Leadership

Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance (PM) program for all equipment and facilities.

Schedule and track maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, PM schedules, inspections, and repair histories.

Identify recurring equipment issues and implement long-term corrective solutions.

Conduct routine inspections of all equipment and facilities to proactively identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Perform routine and advanced maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, loaders, haul trucks, trailers, forklifts, and heavy equipment.

Perform routine washing, greasing, lubrication, servicing, and preventative maintenance activities on all company equipment.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Maintain and repair aggregate processing equipment including crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, and material handling systems.

Maintain and repair concrete batching equipment, mixers, batch plant components, and production systems.

Maintain and repair precast/prestressed concrete manufacturing equipment and plant machinery.

Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications as necessary.

Troubleshoot equipment failures and respond to urgent maintenance needs.

Maintain maximum equipment uptime and reliability across both operations.

Plant & Facility Maintenance

Maintain and repair facility infrastructure, production equipment, motors, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, overhead cranes, electrical systems, and other plant support equipment.

Maintain and repair all equipment utilized in the production of precast and prestressed concrete products.

Maintain and repair overhead cranes, stressing systems, casting beds, concrete batching systems, and material handling equipment.

Conduct routine facility inspections to identify maintenance concerns, safety issues, and operational risks.

Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and improvements to increase operational efficiency and equipment reliability.

Leadership & Coordination

Coordinate maintenance activities with plant management, production supervisors, and equipment operators.

Prioritize maintenance tasks based on operational needs and equipment criticality.

Manage maintenance inventory, parts procurement, and vendor relationships.

Maintain organized maintenance shops, tools, equipment, and spare parts inventories.

Provide guidance and support to operators regarding proper equipment care and basic maintenance practices.

Assist management in identifying equipment replacement needs and capital improvement opportunities.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Conduct equipment inspections and address safety concerns promptly.

Promote a culture of safety, accountability, housekeeping, and preventative maintenance throughout both operations.

Requirements

Minimum 10 years of verifiable experience in industrial maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, or a related field.

Minimum 10 years of verifiable welding and fabrication experience.

Experience developing, implementing, and managing preventative maintenance programs strongly preferred.

Experience with aggregate processing equipment (crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, etc.) strongly preferred.

Experience with concrete batch plants, precast/prestressed concrete production equipment, overhead cranes, industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment, and plant maintenance strongly preferred.

Experience with overhead cranes, precast/prestressed concrete production equipment, stressing systems, casting beds, and related manufacturing equipment strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, industrial machinery, and plant equipment.

Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and equipment documentation.

Strong computer skills, including maintenance tracking, recordkeeping, and communication.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor and industrial environments.

Valid driver's license required.

Must own and maintain a complete set of professional-grade mechanic's tools and diagnostic equipment necessary to independently perform heavy equipment, diesel, and industrial maintenance repairs.

Must own and maintain portable welding and fabrication equipment, including welding machine(s), torches, grinders, cutting tools, and other equipment necessary to perform field repairs and fabrication work.

Candidate must be capable of responding to maintenance and repair needs at both facilities with their own tools and portable welding/fabrication equipment.

Company will provide major shop equipment and facility-based machinery; however, the successful candidate is expected to supply and maintain the personal tools, portable welding equipment, and fabrication equipment necessary to perform their duties effectively.

Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between the quarry in Las Nutrias, NM and the precast facility in Belen, NM as needed.
