High School Assistant Principal

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the principal in providing instructional leadership and overall administration of assigned campus operations. Oversee student discipline, support teacher development, and foster a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous school environment. Lead and implement schoolwide programs aligned with district and state policies to ensure high levels of student achievement and organizational effectiveness.

Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing,/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Lead and implement schoolwide programs aligned with district and state policies to ensure high levels of student achievement and organizational effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:
- Master's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas Standard Principal Certificate or Mid-Management Certificate
- Certified T-TESS Appraiser (preferred or required per district policy)
- Strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction across grade levels
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Understanding of student discipline management and restorative practices
- Knowledge of state assessment programs, accountability systems, and special programs (e.g., Special Education, Bilingual/ESL, 504, RtI/MTSS)
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Experience in instructional leadership, student discipline, and/or campus-level support roles preferred
Instructional Leadership:
- Assist the principal in the implementation of effective instructional programs aligned with district and state standards.
- Conduct classroom walk-throughs and observations; support teacher growth through coaching and feedback.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP).
- Support the use of data-driven decision-making to improve student achievement.
- Manage student discipline processes in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, implementing fair and consistent disciplinary practices.
- Promote restorative practices and positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS).
- Serve as a resource for teachers regarding classroom management strategies and student engagement.
- Assist the principal in the management of daily campus operations, including scheduling, facility use, supervision, and emergency response protocols.
- Coordinate campus testing programs (STAAR, TELPAS, local assessments) and ensure compliance with state testing requirements.
- Support the supervision of extracurricular activities, after-school programs, and school events.
- Serve as an instructional leader by supporting professional development initiatives for teachers and staff.
- Assist with the T-TESS appraisal process, including pre-conferences, observations, and summative evaluations.
- Help identify and support professional growth opportunities aligned with campus and district goals.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, students, and community stakeholders.
- Promote a positive campus climate that fosters parent involvement and community partnerships.
- Resolve conflicts and address parent concerns promptly and professionally.
- Prepare reports and maintain records related to student discipline, attendance, academic interventions, and other assigned duties.
- Perform duties of the principal in the principal's absence as assigned.
- Attend district meetings, professional development sessions, and evening activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Additional Duties by Campus Level: Elementary Assistant Principal:
- Support the development and implementation of foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning programs.
- Oversee arrival, dismissal, and daily student movement to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Coordinate with counselors and interventionists on early identification and support for at-risk students.
- Lead and supervise special programs such as Pre-K, Bilingual/ESL services, Special Education, and Gifted/Talented.
- Build strong relationships with parents through frequent communication and participation in parent events and family nights.
- Oversee grade-level teams to support instructional consistency and student success across content areas.
- Manage attendance interventions and truancy prevention efforts.
- Monitor and support student transitions into middle school, including advisory programs, mentoring, and social-emotional supports.
- Assist in managing UIL eligibility, extracurricular activities, and middle school athletics supervision.
- Collaborate with counselors and behavior specialists to address discipline patterns and implement restorative practices.
- Supervise and support college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) initiatives and graduation requirements.
- Coordinate standardized testing programs (SAT, ACT, STAAR EOC) and dual enrollment initiatives.
- Monitor student progress toward credit acquisition and intervention needs for graduation cohorts.
- Support campus safety efforts including drills, emergency preparedness, and security coordination.
- Oversee student clubs, organizations, athletics, and other campus events to foster school spirit and engagement.
- Supervise instructional aides, clerical personnel, and other assigned staff.
- Assist the principal in supervising teachers and support personnel as needed.
