Portland, Maine A prominent, full-service regional law firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Attorney to join its established Portland practice. The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of experience handling a broad range of sophisticated commercial real estate transactions. This is an opportunity to join a highly respected and active practice with an established client base across Maine and the broader New England region. A portable book of business is not required. The firm is primarily seeking a talented real estate attorney who can integrate into the existing group, independently manage complex matters, provide exceptional client service, and contribute to the continued growth and long-term succession of the practice. Represent developers, property owners, investors, lenders, businesses, institutions, and other clients in commercial real estate transactions.
Lead acquisitions and dispositions involving commercial, industrial, office, retail, residential, mixed-use, and development properties.
Draft and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, letters of intent, deeds, easements, declarations, covenants, and closing documents.
Handle commercial leasing matters on behalf of landlords and tenants.
Advise clients on development projects, ownership structures, financing arrangements, and property-management issues.
Review and analyze title commitments, surveys, zoning reports, environmental materials, leases, and other due diligence documentation.
Identify and resolve title, access, easement, land use, environmental, and development-related concerns.
Coordinate transaction closings and manage relationships with clients, opposing counsel, lenders, title companies, surveyors, brokers, consultants, and government authorities.
Collaborate with attorneys in the firm’s land use, environmental, construction, finance, tax, corporate, and litigation practices.
Manage transactions independently while drawing upon the broader resources of the firm when appropriate.
Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the professional development of the real estate team.
Support client relationship management and practice-development efforts without an immediate expectation of bringing portable business. Qualifications
At least seven years of substantive commercial real estate experience.
Broad experience handling commercial real estate transactions from initial structuring through closing.
Significant experience with acquisitions and dispositions.
Experience in several additional areas, such as:
Commercial leasing
Real estate financing
Development projects
Title and survey review
Easements and property rights
Land use and zoning
Environmental diligence
Entity and ownership structuring
Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage sophisticated transactions and competing deadlines.
Excellent client-service skills and a practical, business-oriented approach.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across offices and practice areas.
