Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of strong Emergency Department experience. First-time travelers are welcome if they have EPIC experience. License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS ACLS NIH PALS ENPC (preferred) TNCC (preferred) De-escalation training: MOAB or CPI is preferred Must-Have: Basic Emergency Department skills, including stroke and trauma. Experience with splinting, pediatric care, chest tubes, cardiac rhythm interpretations, and line management (central lines). Description: This position is for an Emergency Department Registered Nurse. The facility has 101 beds and is a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. The average number of patients per day in the Emergency Department is between 90 during busy times, reaching up to 110. Patient demographics include 10% behavioral health (adults/pediatrics), 25% geriatric, 15% pediatric, and 50% adult. Common patient cases include trauma, cardiac, neuro, respiratory issues, mental illness, and general medical concerns. The nurse-patient ratio is typically 1:3 during routine days but can adjust to 4-5 during high census. If the RN has critical care experience, the norm is a 1:2 ratio. Required personal protective equipment includes conventional PPE, N95 masks, and PAPRs. Support on the unit includes dedicated ED Techs, Charge Nurses, and a triage process. ED Techs can assist with ultrasound-guided IVs, EKGs, paperwork for transfers, and paging consults. Charting and equipment include EPIC, Alaris, and Pyxis systems, with bedside telemonitoring available. Floating to assist other units with hard IV sticks may occur, but nurses will not take patient assignments outside of the Emergency Department. Schedule includes a weekend rotation every other week and time-off requests are accommodated. Scrub color is flexible, as long as it is professional. The work environment is fast-paced and high acuity, with a utilization rate of 25%.
