Tax Accountant

The Axel Group is seeking a Tax Accountant for our client's team. This onsite role supports federal, state, and local tax compliance and tax-planning efforts, including preparing and reconciling tax filings, conducting tax research, monitoring regulatory changes, and partnering with senior leadership and external advisors to resolve tax matters. Responsibilities Convert financial statements from book basis to tax basis and reconcile differences Prepare selected federal returns and supporting schedules Prepare tax forms including 1120, 1120S, 1120H, 1065, and 1040 Prepare trust, gift, intangible tax, tangible personal property tax, and sales/use tax filings Prepare and file Form 5500 for employee benefit plans Conduct federal, state, and local tax research; summarize conclusions and recommend appropriate treatment Support tax-planning strategies that improve tax efficiency while maintaining compliance Analyze financial information for tax implications, tax positions, risks, and potential opportunities Serve as an internal liaison to external tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory agencies Monitor changes in tax laws/regulations and recommend required actions Requirements Strong technical tax and accounting knowledge Ability to independently prepare and review complex tax returns and supporting schedules Comfort researching tax laws, regulations, rulings, and technical guidance Familiarity with tax-research platforms and tools Highly detail-oriented, discreet, and organized; able to work with sensitive financial information Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) 5-8 years of progressive tax-accounting experience (required) CPA license or active progress toward a CPA (preferred) Master’s degree in Taxation (preferred) Public accounting experience (preferred) Experience in real estate, construction, homebuilding, partnerships, or multi-entity environments (highly relevant/helpful) #J-18808-Ljbffr The Axel Group, LLC
