Warehouse Operations Manager

We are seeking a hands-on Warehouse Operations Manager to lead all warehouse and fabrication operations within our 40,000-square-foot distribution facility near Elizabeth, NJ. This individual will oversee the distribution of construction products serving HVAC, Electrical, and Construction customers while also managing a light fabrication operation that produces customized products to customer specifications. The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with an ownership mentality who thrives on the warehouse floor, builds high-performing teams, and continuously improves operations through process development, KPI management, and employee accountability. This position is responsible for driving operational excellence across receiving, inventory, fabrication, order fulfillment, shipping, and customer service while creating scalable processes to support future growth. Responsibilities Lead, coach, mentor, and develop warehouse and fabrication personnel while creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Oversee all warehouse operations including receiving, inventory control, put-away, replenishment, order picking, packing, shipping, returns, and quality assurance. Manage daily fabrication operations, ensuring customized products are produced accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Improve operational throughput by implementing best practices, Lean principles, standardized work, and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across warehouse and fabrication functions. Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, shipping performance, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery. Optimize warehouse layout, product slotting, workflow, and space utilization to maximize efficiency. Ensure accurate inventory management through cycle counting, physical inventories, reconciliation, and inventory control processes. Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to improve inventory visibility, operational accuracy, and reporting. Coordinate production schedules with customer demand and shipping priorities to meet delivery commitments. Partner closely with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. Analyze operational metrics and identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve productivity, and increase service levels. Maintain OSHA compliance while promoting a safe, clean, and organized warehouse and fabrication environment. Manage staffing, scheduling, labor planning, training, and employee performance. Lead by example by working alongside the team during peak periods and supporting day-to-day operations as needed. Qualifications 5+ years of warehouse management experience within distribution, industrial products, construction materials, manufacturing, or related industries. Experience overseeing both warehouse distribution and light manufacturing or fabrication operations is strongly preferred. Proven experience managing receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, and production scheduling. Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to develop, motivate, and retain high-performing teams. Experience implementing operational improvements that increase throughput, productivity, quality, and efficiency. Strong knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and inventory control best practices. Experience developing and managing KPIs, SOPs, workflow improvements, and performance metrics. Strong understanding of warehouse layout optimization, slotting strategies, labor planning, and process improvement. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and reporting tools. Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification is preferred. Bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent operational leadership experience will be considered. Preferred Experience Construction products, HVAC, electrical distribution, industrial supply, building materials, or manufacturing environments. Custom fabrication, assembly, or made-to-order production operations. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
