Certified Nurse Midwife

Matrix Providers is hiring a Certified Nurse Midwife to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at the OB/GYN Clinic and Labor and Delivery Unit, Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL.

• Employment Status: Full-Time
• Compensation: This is an hourly position, paid bi-weekly OR
  • $56-$58.14/hour; plus $5.09 H&W
  • Compensation will be based on factors such as experience, requirements related to the Performance Work Statement, labor market conditions and wage determination requirements
• Schedule:

  • Flexible 8.5- or 10.5-hour shifts scheduled primarily within OB/GYN Clinic operating hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.�6:00 p.m.

  • Current work hours: Works hours for clinic 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Call shifts run 24 hours from 8:00 am � 8:00 pm.

  • At least one Saturday shift per month, scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Typically 40 hours per week, including watch-standing, with a maximum of 160 hours in any four-week period.
  • Each shift includes an unpaid 30-minute meal break.

  • Primary assignment is the OB/GYN Clinic, with outpatient obstetric coverage at NBHC Mayport and watch-standing in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Naval Hospital Jacksonville.

  • Approximately two 24-hour on-site watch-standing shifts per month, generally from 7:30 a.m. Wednesday or Thursday to 7:30 a.m. the following day.

  • During daytime watch-standing, the employee continues clinic duties and reports to Labor and Delivery as needed; after clinic hours, the employee must remain on-site. A resting room is available when services are not required.
  • Schedules are issued approximately one month in advance for each two-week period. Shift changes may be made with 72 hours� notice based on patient-care or mission needs, and planned absences must be coordinated in advance.
  • Federal holiday work may be required. No separate on-call or overage hours apply; watch-standing is included within scheduled duty hours.

Requirements: The Certified Nurse Midwife must have and meet the following:

• Degree: Master's degree in nursing.
• Education : Graduate from a certified nurse midwife education program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).
• Certifications:
  • Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • The following certifications must be through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Experience: Certified Nurse Midwife must possess at least one (1) year of full-time experience within the preceding twenty-four (24) months as a Nurse Midwife in an outpatient setting.
• Licensure/Registration: Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife in anyone (1) of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Additional Requirements :

Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from practicing providers, supervisors or program administrators attesting to his/her professional skills, competencies, patient rapport, etc.

Reference letters must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. Letters of reference must have been written within the preceding two (2) years.

Core Duties:

• Provide comprehensive women�s healthcare from menarche through menopause, including prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, family-planning, and preconception services.
• Assess patients by obtaining health histories, performing obstetric examinations, and collecting, documenting, and evaluating clinical data.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans consistent with established clinical guidelines.
• Manage antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including education, counseling, and support.
• Provide care for patients with medical complications and consult, collaborate, or refer to obstetrician-gynecologists as needed.
• Manage normal spontaneous deliveries and accurately document labor and delivery services.
• Perform and document newborn physical examinations and manage routine newborn care, including nutrition, elimination, and activity.
• Prescribe medications within approved Military Treatment Facility privileges.
• Maintain complete patient records, report pertinent clinical information, and manage inpatient admissions.
• Serve as a preceptor or clinical instructor, provide technical direction and training to residents and students, and maintain professional development, licensure, and continuing education.

Clinic and Patient Information :

• Daily responsibilities: CNMs see patients, review laboratory results, and contact patients as needed.
• OB clinic workload: The typical schedule includes 12�14 appointments per day, with occasional gynecology patients.
• Procedure clinics: The Cervical Cancer Screening Clinic schedules 18 appointments, while the Walk-in Contraception Clinic schedules 12�15.
• Pace and support: The OB clinic has a manageable pace; procedure clinics move faster. Each provider usually has one support person, with two assigned to the procedure clinics.
• Onboarding: Orientation includes two to three days of check-in, three days of Command Indoctrination, and MHS GENESIS training.
• System access and training: Computer access may take up to four days. GENESIS training depends on completion of computer-based and instructor-led courses.
• Clinical integration: While completing training, new staff shadow a CNM to learn clinic workflows, staff roles, electronic health records, and referral processes.
• Work schedule: Clinic hours are 7:30 a.m. � 4:30 p.m. Call shifts run for 24 hours, from 8:00 a.m. � 8:00 a.m.
• Clinic scope and volume: The full-scope obstetrics and gynecology clinic sees 350�500 patients monthly and typically supports 50�60 deliveries per month.
• Staffing and neonatal support: The te am includes active-duty, civilian, and contract physicians and CNMs; nursing, administrative, and clinical support staff; and four neonatal nurse practitioners supporting a Level I nursery after hours.
