Registered Nurse (RN) - Pre/Post PACU Outpatient Centers

Deliver high-quality perioperative care in a dynamic outpatient environment where efficiency, patient experience, and clinical excellence intersect. This role places you at the center of UVA Health’s expanding outpatient surgical network, supporting patients through critical pre- and post-anesthesia phases while working alongside highly specialized teams.

As a Pre/Post PACU RN , you will practice at the top of your license across multiple outpatient surgical settings, gaining exposure to varied patient populations, procedural specialties, and care delivery models. The Role:

In this position, you will provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures, managing both pre-operative readiness and post-anesthesia recovery across multiple sites. The environment is fast-paced, patient-centered, and highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on safety, throughput, and exceptional patient outcomes.

You will work across three distinct outpatient centers, each offering unique clinical exposure:

• UVA Outpatient Surgery Center

• Broad patient population spanning pediatrics through geriatrics

• High-volume setting with 40–60 patients per day

• Large-scale operation with Phase I and Phase II recovery rooms and bedded capacity

• Surgical Care Riverside

• Focused outpatient surgical experience with 4 operating rooms

• Moderate daily volume of 25–50 patients

• Strong patient satisfaction culture and efficient throughput workflows

• Orthopedic Center at Ivy Road

• Specialty-driven environment focused on orthopedic surgery

• Features pre- and post-operative rooms and extended-stay capabilities

• Growing surgical platform with planned OR expansion

A typical day includes :

• Conducting pre-operative assessments , patient education, and care coordination

• Monitoring and managing patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery

• Collaborating with anesthesia, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members

• Ensuring safe discharge planning and patient readiness for outpatient recovery

• Maintaining high standards for patient experience, quality, and safety metrics

Additional role highlights:

• No nights, weekends, or holidays

• Minimal call requirement with incentive pay

• Flexible scheduling options including 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts (varies by site)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
