This is not a monitoring layer on top of existing telephony; it is the actual call-handling engine, responsible for every packet, every route, and every millisecond of uptime in a life-critical system.As a Senior UC Software Engineer, you will help design, build, and maintain this infrastructure, ensuring that no call fails — ever. Your work will directly influence the reliability of 911 dispatch for PSAPs across the country, while advancing one of the most novel cloud-native voice platforms in public safety.This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of four days per week in our Boston office.What You'll DoDesign and develop cloud-based voice infrastructure handling SIP routing, call state management, and redundancy for emergency 911 systemsBuild and maintain integrations with telephony providers, PSAPs, and external partners, ensuring end-to-end call reliability in production environmentsDrive major features and architectural evolution of the voice platformCollaborate closely with operations, networking, and engineering teams to ensure system visibility, reliability, and alignment on infrastructure changesParticipate in on-call rotations or incident response for production voice infrastructure, given the zero-failure requirement of the systemWhat Makes You a Great FitDeep experience with VoIP/UC systems and SIP protocol. You have written or integrated SIP-based applications and can speak fluently about the protocol's behaviorCloud platform experience, ideally AWS. You understand how to build distributed, fault-tolerant systems in the cloud, not just in hardware-based telecom infrastructureFamiliarity with open-source VoIP tools such as FreeSWITCH and Kamailio. Direct experience with these is a strong signal; adjacent experience is welcomeComfort operating in a highly cross-functional environment.
