Job Summary

Essential Job Functions

• An ophthalmic assistant works with the ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide patient care by performing many different eye-related clinical functions.
• Ophthalmic assistants help care for patients by taking histories, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing patients to see the doctor.
• Their work provides the ophthalmologists and optometrists with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.
• Assist and provide patients with excellent customer service and any necessary information regarding treatment.
• Conduct tonometry tests to measure intraocular pressure.
• Measure visual acuity.
• Take and document patients' medical histories.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
• Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.

Education and Experience

• Experience within a professional environment with a strong customer service focus.
• Previous experience within the medical field (preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED required, willing to train the right person, experience in optometry or ophthalmology a plus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position with the home office located in [CITY, STATE].
• Travel to other locations will be required.
