Controller/Director of Finance

The Union League is a private social Club providing its members and guests with a quiet sanctuary and relief from the hustle of the city. Our emphasis is on privacy, an exceptional club experience with an emphasis on personalized service. Our clubhouse conta ins over 19,000 square feet of event space ranging from small private dining rooms to grand ballrooms as well as 60 overnight guest rooms. Our culinary staff has prepared meals for Presidents, Prime Ministers and Royals from around the globe. Additionally, The Club offers members and guest a robust calendar of special events and programs.

Position Overview

The Controller acts as a strategic financial partner to club leadership, ensuring fiscal stability, accurate member billing, transparent reporting to the Board of Directors, and strict compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Core Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements), budget variances, and executive financial packets for the General Manager and Board.
• Accounting Operations: Oversee daily general ledger maintenance, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), member billing/dues processing, and cash flow management.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with department heads and the General Manager to build annual operating and capital budgets.
• Payroll & Human Resources: Process weekly payroll, manage employee benefit administration, and handle core HR recordkeeping and tax filings.
• Audits & Tax Compliance: Coordinate internal and external financial audits and oversee local, state, and federal tax filings.
• Committee & Board Support: Serve as a direct liaison or advisor to the Finance, Audit, Pension, and Capital Planning committees.
• System & Asset Management: Maintain club management and accounting software (e.g., Jonas, ClubEssential) and assist with IT/asset tracking.
• Staff Supervision: Hire, train, and supervise accounting personnel.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Ac counting, Finance, or Business Administration; CPA certification preferred.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role—ideally within the private club, hospitality, or member-based industry.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in club-specific accounting software (such as Jonas Software, ClubEssential, or NorthStar) , advanced Microsoft Excel, and general ERP systems.
• Soft Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, high discretion with sensitive member/staff data, and a collaborative approach to club operations.
