Principal EngineerHazen and Sawyer is seeking a Principal Engineer for our Fairfax, VA office.Why Hazen and Sawyer:Founded in 1951 by the son of Allen Hazen (developer of the Hazen-Williams equation), we are an employee-owned company with a singular focus on "all things water."Our work includes planning, design, and oversight of construction of environmental infrastructure – for water, wastewater, and stormwater management.We foster a work environment low on bureaucracy and high in creativity.We recruit talented professionals, provide them with challenging, interesting, and creative assignments, and furnish them with the tools they need to succeed.We currently have over 2,000 employees in 70+ offices throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, and the UK.A flexible hybrid work schedule supports today's busy professionals.Key Responsibilities:Delivering public sector water and wastewater facilities planning and design projectsSupport projects as a critical part of the design team, a design lead, a task manager, and/or a project managerPrepare facility assessment and design reportsPerform design calculations, perform process and/or hydraulic modeling, select and size equipment, prepare design documents and construction documents, support construction phase services both in office and in the fieldField work and site visits from planning through construction may require occasional travel. You will support and mentor junior engineers and will be supported by multiple senior mentors on projects and local and regional office leadershipRequired Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical EngineeringStrong verbal and written communication skillsPE license (Virginia, or ability to be licensed in Virginia via comity)Minimum of 1 year following PE licensure of documented design experience for water/wastewater facilities projectsExperience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teamsExperience supervising, coordinating and reviewing work by junior and technical staffAbility to estimate workload and develop schedulesProficient in standard software platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)Strong organizational skillsPreferred Qualifications:Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Construction ManagementExperience serving as Project Manager for water/wastewater facility projectsExperience supporting proposal preparation and participating in interviewsExperience communicating and coordinating with clientsExperience mentoring junior and technical staffExperience delivering water and/or wastewater facility projects from preliminary design through constructionFamiliarity with CADD, GIS, Revit, and/or other softwareWhat We Offer:Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans)Pre-tax flexible spending plans for medical, dependent care, and transportationShort and long-term disability, and employer paid life insurancePaid holidays, floating holidays, and paid time off (PTO)Employer-contributed 401(k) plan and additional financial planning supportProfessional growth opportunities, including tuition reimbursement, in-house training, and incentives for professional registration and professional organization membershipsStarting pay range for this position depends on skills, experience, education and geographical location
