Network Engineer Principal

DescriptionMay design, analyze, plan, modify, and maintain networks and network components supporting data, voice and/or audio communication activities. Will implement new network routes and configurations to external organizations. Will perform network monitoring of on-prem and remote systems. Will perform troubleshooting and operations/maintenance of on-prem and remote mission network paths. May conduct network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies as well as internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis. May evaluate new technology. Duties may include providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture; providing information for hardware and software selection; and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network systems. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Establishes and recommends changes to policies, which affect subordinate organization(s).PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.FREEDOM TO ACT: Work is performed without appreciable direction.
