Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ED Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs, CO region, requiring 2 years of ED experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone on night shifts.

Details

• Float pool position covering Emergency Departments across Zone 1, which is centered around Colorado Springs, CO and spans a 60-mile radius — there is no single home base facility
• Zone 1 facilities include Penrose Hospital (Colorado Springs), St. Francis Medical Center (Colorado Springs), St. Francis InterQuest (Colorado Springs), St. Mary Corwin (Pueblo), and St. Thomas More (Canon City)
• Trauma levels vary across zone facilities, ranging from Level 3 to Level 4; majority of facilities are STEMI and Stroke receiving centers
• Common patient diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 based on acuity
• Daily ED volume ranges from 40–168 patients depending on location
• ER holds are intermixed within the ED
• No dedicated monitor techs — RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• RNs will be trained to perform Point-of-Care lab testing
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
• Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and follow one of two formats: (A) assigned to a single facility for the week with possible in-unit floating, or (B) Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment to a facility 1–2 hours before shift start
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses will not be accepted
• Active certifications required (pending not accepted): BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIHSS, TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of ED/ER experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry independently
• Must be able to float across all Zone 1 facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs city center
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must maintain a permanent address at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the float zone's city center) to qualify for travel rates — DL is used to verify permanent address

Additional Information

• Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to report to any facility within the full 60-mile Zone 1 radius — this floating requirement applies regardless of where the traveler chooses to stay
• Clinicians must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Unit-specific orientation is 2–3 days
• Techs are available on the floor to support unit secretary duties, assist nurses, and help with triage
• A charge nurse is present on the unit; charge nurses do take patient assignments
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Hiring process includes a candidate interview with the MedSol Clinical Team — no unit manager interview involved
