Summary Provides professional nursing services to accomplish the individual patient plan of care; independently and consistently using the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a full assignment of patients with subtle and sometimes unidentified needs. Supports the operations of the Alaska Native Medical Center and programs. Responsibilities Evaluates one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations, identifying short and long‑term professional goals. Utilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and others practicing in a Shared Governance model of nursing practice. Makes decisions and takes actions on behalf of patients that are determined in an ethical manner, and care is delivered in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, preserving patient autonomy, dignity, and rights. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Minimum Education Qualification An associate degree in nursing. Equivalent knowledge, experience, education, or training may be substituted for education. Must have participated in 30 hours every 2 years continuing education in nursing in general, 16 of which are in the specific area of practice. Minimum Experience Qualification Specific experience may be required for each work area. Minimum Certification Qualification Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska. Current Basic Life Support card required. All other certifications as required for specific work area. New employees must obtain the required certifications within six months of hire; new graduates must obtain the required certifications within 18 months of hire; contract and MOA employees must come to us with the required training completed as outlined in their individual contracts/MOAs, and must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements.
