Senior Metrology Engineering Leader

Job Description Summary The Sr Metrology Engineering Leader is responsible for leading a team of CMM programmers/measurement specialists who define and implement all measurement processes within the GE Indianapolis manufacturing plant. This role owns the end-to-end measurement process, including planning, writing, validating, and maintaining CMM programs to ensure product quality, compliance with aerospace standards, and support for production needs. The position requires a hands‑on technical leader who can set direction, prioritize workload, coach and develop the team, and interface effectively with plant leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management : Lead and develop the measurement process team, set objectives and KPIs aligned with plant Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost targets, motivate the team, balance resources, and provide coaching and performance feedback. Measurement Process Ownership : Own the CMM programming process from requirements gathering through validation and release for production. Establish and maintain standard work, ensure programs are robust, efficient, and repeatable, define and maintain measurement strategies, and drive standardization across processes and shifts. Technical Metrology Responsibilities : Review engineering drawings and 3D models to interpret GD&T, define measurement approaches, oversee creation and modification of CMM programs using PC‑DMIS, validate and approve programs, and collaborate with Product/Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve dimensional issues and optimize inspection plans. Program Management & Prioritization : Own the CMM programming demand queue, program manage priorities, maintain a visible plan showing status, owners, and due dates, and escalates risks and constraints with mitigation plans. Stakeholder Management & Communication : Interface regularly with plant leadership, translate directives into actionable plans, represent the measurement function in cross‑functional reviews, and communicate status and changes to operators, quality inspectors, and engineers. Continuous Improvement & Compliance : Lead improvement projects to reduce inspection time and improve measurement reliability, ensure adherence to aerospace and metrology industry standards, maintain documentation, implement lessons learned, and benchmark best practices. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high‑school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of specific experience) + minimum of 5 years CMM programming in a production environment, preferably in aerospace or other highly regulated industries. Proven experience in a technical leadership or team lead role, managing engineers/technicians, setting priorities, and delivering results. Experience in precision machining and manufacturing processes for aerospace components. Strong understanding of GD&T (per ASME Y14.5), dimensional metrology, fixturing, and inspection methods. Proficiency with PC‑DMIS and offline programming from CAD/model‑based definition. Ability to lead, coach, and motivate a technical team; strong ownership mindset; able to handle ambiguity and prioritize under pressure. Ability to interpret measurement data, capability indices, and use data to guide decisions and improvements. Strong written and verbal communication; able to present clearly to plant leadership and translate technical content into business impact. Experience planning, prioritizing, and tracking multiple concurrent tasks and projects; strong follow‑through. Familiarity with lean principles, standard work, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
