Engineering GeologistPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Geologist to support geotechnical projects through site investigation, subsurface characterization, and engineering interpretation. The role focuses on assessing ground conditions, providing technical recommendations for design and construction, and preparing clear reports that inform risk management and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will combine field experience with strong analytical and communication skills to deliver practical, safety-focused solutions for infrastructure, development, and remediation projects.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and conduct site investigations including borehole supervision, test pit excavation, and in-situ testing to characterize soil, rock, and groundwater conditions.Collect, log, and document geologic, geotechnical, and hydrogeologic field data; perform field sampling and ensure chain-of-custody for laboratory testing.Interpret geotechnical and geological data to develop subsurface models, stratigraphic logs, groundwater profiles, and engineering cross-sections.Perform laboratory data review and soil/rock property interpretation; coordinate with laboratories for specialized testing as needed.Assess slope stability, foundation conditions, earthworks, and excavation support requirements; provide practical recommendations for design and construction.Prepare concise, technically sound geotechnical reports, memoranda, and regulatory submissions that summarize findings, conclusions, and design recommendations.Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers to integrate geological findings into design, permitting, and remediation plans.Apply relevant engineering principles, standards, and local regulatory requirements to ensure compliant and safe project outcomes.Use geospatial tools and GIS data to visualize site geology and support risk assessments and permitting.Support groundwater assessments and basic groundwater modeling input where required; liaise with hydrogeologists for advanced analyses.QualificationsBachelors degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related geoscience field; Masters degree preferred.Professional registration or certification in geology or engineering geology where applicable (e.g., CGeol, P.Geo, or equivalent) is an asset.Demonstrated experience in geotechnical engineering and site investigation on civil, infrastructure, or environmental projects.Proficiency in field sampling, borehole logging, in-situ testing methods (e.g., SPT, CPT), and supervision of field crews.Experience interpreting soil and rock data; familiarity with soil analysis and basic rock mechanics concepts (preferred).Working knowledge of hydrogeology, groundwater sampling, and groundwater modeling concepts (preferred).Experience with environmental assessment procedures and regulatory compliance for contaminated sites (preferred).Familiarity with geospatial analysis tools (GIS) and common engineering geology software for data visualization (preferred).Strong technical writing skills for clear report preparation and communication of findings to clients and regulators.Analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools; attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Valid drivers license and ability to work at field sites, including ability to travel and work in variable outdoor conditions.
